Workforce and training programs: asking the right questions

Not every path back to learning is a degree. Short programs and workforce training have their own rules.

Degree and non-degree programs

Federal grants generally apply to eligible programs at eligible schools. Some short programs are eligible and some are not. The school can tell you.

Workforce agencies

Each state has workforce development services, often through local career centers, that explain training support in that state.

Questions for a program

  • Is this program eligible for federal student aid?
  • Are there state workforce programs that apply?
  • What does the full program cost?

A caution

Be wary of anyone who promises guaranteed aid or asks for a fee to apply. Official forms are free.
